[Worlds 2020] Top Esports reverse sweeps Fnatic in epic 5-game series

Top Esports has performed the first reverse sweep at the League of Legends World Championship. Defeating Fnatic 3-2, the team will be moving on to face the other LPL contenders in the semifinals, clashing against Suning Gaming for a one-way ticket to the finals.

Coming into the series, the Chinese resident team Top Esports was deemed to be the favorites, after being crowned champion of the 2020 LPL Summer Split, the team’s dominant performance struggled to maintain. The starred lineup has one of the highest-ranking players in the league, however, Yu "JackeyLove" Wen-Bo surprisingly did not manage to secure any kills in the first couple of games, while Liang "yuyanjia" Jia-Yuan set the world record with 5 deaths by 15 minutes in the second game.

The first two games were marked by the Bot Lane difference between Fnatic and Top Esports, with the latter being clearly outclassed by the European representatives. Zdravets "Hylissang" Iliev Galabov shined picking Rakan, while Martin "Rekkles" Larsson asserted his dominance with an impressive K/D/A of 6/0/8 in the first game.

Top Esports managed to get the upper hand in the third match, punishing Fnatic for their mistakes in the Bot Lane, snowballing to an inevitable stomp. Proving Fnatic’s draft flexibility, Tim "Nemesis" Lipovšek picked Vel’Koz for a stage game for the first time in his career, in hopes to counter Knight’s Orianna, unfortunately, the pick did not work in their favor.

Taking us to game five, the fourth match was presented in classic LPL fashion, with fast-paced gameplay and aggressive teamfights. Top Esports has proven to be the better team by making an epic comeback and reverse sweeping Fnatic, making history as the first team to pull a reverse-sweep at the League of Legends World Championship.
