Vesna is easy to misplay in one simple way: swapping out too early. You press her Skill, build Sword Essence, and work her special Skill from Lv. 1 to Lv. 3, but the big payoff comes after that. A short field window wastes much of what makes her strong, which is why her build and team both need to support a longer on-field combo. Vesna arrives in Genshin Impact 7.1 on September 23, 2026. What Kind of DPS Is Vesna?
Vesna is a five-star Anemo Sword user and a full on-field carry. Most of her damage comes from Anemo-infused attacks, her Burst, and the Spirit Blades summoned by her special Elemental Skill, while her kit also changes Cryo Swirl into Stellar Swirl. That makes Cryo application a real part of her build instead of a small bonus. ATK helps both her own attacks and the base Stellar Swirl bonus from Stellar Jubilee: Splendid Prelude. After that, build CRIT and enough Energy Recharge to use her 60-Energy Burst each rotation; Elemental Mastery works too, but I would not trade away a strong ATK and CRIT build just to stack more EM.
How Does Vesna Build Her Damage?
The Art of Victory opens her field window
Vesna starts with The Art of Victory, which deals AoE Anemo damage, gives her two Sword Essence stacks, and puts her in Armed for Action for up to 15 seconds. Her Normal, Charged, and Plunging Attacks become Anemo damage during this state, and they cannot be replaced by another infusion. Those attacks also call in a wind pinion that adds another hit and helps recover Sword Essence. Vesna gains better interruption resistance as well, so she has an easier time staying on the field until the combo is done.
Windborne Sword needs time to reach full power
After Vesna enters Armed for Action, her Skill changes to Windborne Sword, and each use spends Sword Essence. The Skill rises from Lv. 1 to Lv. 2 and then Lv. 3; the Lv. 2 cast starts adding a Spirit Blade, while Lv. 3 brings the stronger multi-hit sequence and final strike. Reaching Lv. 3 is not the end of the combo, either. Vesna can use that version three times at C0 before Armed for Action closes, so finish those casts before changing characters. Leaving the field early clears her remaining Sword Essence and Disciplinary Action stacks.
Her Burst keeps the Skill loop moving
For the Tsaritsa! summons several Spirit Blades, deals AoE Anemo damage, and gives Vesna one Sword Essence stack. It has a 15-second cooldown and costs 60 Energy, so I would use it early in her field time rather than hold it for the end. Casting it after the first Windborne Sword helps feed the rest of the combo. Every Burst or Windborne Sword cast also gives one Disciplinary Action stack. Each stack raises Spirit Blade damage by 10% of its original damage, up to six stacks, which is why the later Spirit Blades hit harder than the early ones.
Stellar Swirl rewards steady Cryo application
When anyone in the party triggers Cryo Swirl, Vesna changes it into Stellar Swirl, and her ATK raises its base damage by 0.7% for every 100 ATK, up to 14%. The reaction also puts Vesna in Radiance: Stellar Swirl for eight seconds, during which her Spirit Blade damage counts as Stellar Swirl damage. Stellar Swirl then creates a Stellar Vortex, and further triggers raise its level before it explodes. In practice, one large Cryo hit is not enough for a smooth rotation. Vesna wants an off-field Cryo source that can keep the reaction going while she attacks.
What Is Vesna's Current Rotation?
Set up Cryo and the team's longer buffs first. Once Vesna uses The Art of Victory, keep her active unless the enemy forces you to leave. A simple rotation looks like this:
- Cast the team's off-field Cryo, healing, shield, and resistance reduction skills.
- Switch to Vesna and use The Art of Victory.
- Cast Windborne Sword Lv. 1.
- Use For the Tsaritsa! to deal damage and gain another Sword Essence stack.
- Use Anemo-infused Normal Attacks to refill Sword Essence.
- Cast Windborne Sword again whenever enough Essence is ready.
- After reaching Lv. 3, fit in all three C0 Lv. 3 casts before the state ends.
Normal Attacks are mainly there to refill Sword Essence between special Skill casts. Watch the resource indicator instead of forcing a fixed attack string, since the point is to spend Essence once Windborne Sword is ready rather than repeat the same hit count every time. Once the resource is available, cast the Skill and keep moving through the combo.
Which Talents Should You Level First?
Level The Art of Victory first because it controls Armed for Action, Windborne Sword, and most of Vesna's main damage. Her Burst comes second: it hits hard, adds Spirit Blades, and gives another Sword Essence stack. Normal Attack is third, but it is not useless, since Vesna spends a fair part of the rotation using infused attacks to deal damage and refill her resource. If Mora is tight, take the Skill to Level 8 first, then bring the Burst and Normal Attack to Level 6 before pushing higher. Treat that as a practical early stopping point rather than a fixed damage rule.
Which Sword Should Vesna Use?
Beyond the Chrysalis is the cleanest choice because every part of it fits her rotation. Whitelake Frostfeather is strong if you already own it, while Wolf-Fang gives four-star builds a useful CRIT weapon. The right pick mostly comes down to which CRIT stat your artifacts need and whether you already have one of the alternatives. The signature has one small rule to remember: leaving the field removes its active effects and resets the sequence. That fits Vesna's normal rotation, but an early swap now costs her both Sword Essence and weapon uptime. Check your CRIT Rate before using a CRIT Rate Circlet with Wolf-Fang or Whitelake Frostfeather. Vesna gains 19.2% through Ascension, and Scarlet Proof adds another 16% in combat.
How Should You Build Scarlet Proof?
The 2-piece Scarlet Proof bonus gives 18% ATK, while its 4-piece effect gives 16% CRIT Rate and 40% Stellar Swirl damage for ten seconds after the wearer triggers Stellar Swirl. Vesna activates the full set without adding an awkward setup step, which makes it the obvious starting point for her build. Use an ATK% Sands and ATK% Goblet by default, although an Elemental Mastery Goblet can work when its substats are much better or the team already gives Vesna plenty of ATK. For the last slot, choose whichever CRIT Circlet brings the build closer to a balanced ratio.
Vesna wants enough ER to use her 60-Energy Burst each rotation, but there is no need to chase a strict number. Her signature weapon and extra Anemo teammates lower the pressure, so build ATK and CRIT first. Odette, Vodyanitsa, and Qiqi offer the full support package
Vesna + Odette + Vodyanitsa + Qiqi is the strongest complete team among the supplied lineups. Odette keeps Cryo on the field through her Solo Dance Double and passes Marvelous Splendor stacks to the next character. Each stack adds 15% Stellar Glimmer damage, while her Burst gives a 50% reaction bonus for 20 seconds. Vodyanitsa then brings healing, interruption resistance, and repeated off-field attacks. Creating or detonating her Wandering Vortex lowers nearby enemies' Anemo RES by 35% for six seconds, and she can extend Radiance: Stellar Swirl by four seconds while Song of Ages Past is active.
Qiqi rounds out the team with more Cryo and very safe healing, while Herald of Frost gives the party 50% Cryo Swirl and Stellar Swirl damage during the Stellar Swirl state. A clean setup is Odette Burst and Skill sequence > Vodyanitsa Skill and Burst > Qiqi Skill > Vesna combo. The supports do their work before Vesna takes over, so there is no reason to break her field time for another setup halfway through. Once Vesna enters Armed for Action, leave her in until the main combo is finished.
Sucrose and Jean work when premium support is missing
Vesna + Odette + Sucrose + Jean uses characters that many older accounts already have. Sucrose shares Elemental Mastery, while Jean heals, helps make Anemo particles, and lowers the Anemo RES of enemies inside her Burst by 40% at C4. The catch is that Odette is the only Cryo character, so her Solo Dance Double needs to be on the field before the Anemo supports begin their setup. Do not spend too long cycling through them, or Vesna may lose part of the Cryo coverage she needs. At C0, Jean is mainly a healer and battery rather than a true replacement for Vodyanitsa.
Cryo Traveler, Faruzan, and Diona make a cheaper core
Vesna + Cryo Traveler + Faruzan + Diona covers the basic needs without Odette or Vodyanitsa. Cryo Traveler applies Cryo and adds Stellar Swirl damage. Faruzan supports Anemo damage and lowers Anemo RES, while Diona brings a shield plus healing. The team lacks some premium reaction bonuses, but the pieces still make sense together.
Constellations raise this team's ceiling. Faruzan C6 adds 40% CRIT DMG to Anemo damage. Diona C6 gives 200 Elemental Mastery above 50% HP and adds 40% Cryo Swirl and Stellar Swirl damage inside her Burst, while Cryo Traveler gains stronger team support at C2 and C6. Without those upgrades, use the team as a working starting point rather than expecting premium-team damage.
What Materials Does Vesna Need?
Level 90 costs 2,092,600 Mora, while taking all three talents to Level 10 costs another 4,957,500 Mora. The full plan needs 7,050,100 Mora before her weapon and artifacts. You can spend much less by raising the Skill first and leaving the other talents below Level 10.

Golden Fern is the first item I would collect because Vesna needs 168 of them and local specialties take time to return. Profaned Sprout is the longer talent gate, but all 18 are only needed for a triple Crown. If you are short on weekly drops, finish the Skill first instead of spreading them across all three talents.
Should You Pull C1 or Beyond the Chrysalis?
C0 already has Vesna's full playstyle: she can convert Cryo Swirl, enter Armed for Action, and use the highest-level Windborne Sword three times. That makes C0 a good stopping point for most players. C1 adds a fourth highest-level Windborne Sword cast, makes the first Lv. 3 cast in each field window cost no Sword Essence, and gives Vesna 20% Stellar Swirl damage while Armed for Action is active. It is a real damage upgrade, but its bigger appeal may be how much smoother the full combo feels.
Beyond the Chrysalis is easier to pick when your current Swords are weak because it gives high Base ATK, CRIT DMG, Stellar Swirl damage, and some Energy in one slot. If you already have Whitelake Frostfeather or another strong CRIT Sword, keeping that weapon and saving for C1 or another teammate may offer more value. There is also a team cost to consider: an account with Odette has a clear reason to pull Vesna, but Vodyanitsa may add more to the full Stellar Swirl team than either C1 or the signature weapon. Vodyanitsa helps a lot but is not required
Vesna still works with Cryo Traveler, Faruzan, and Diona, so Vodyanitsa is not required to make the team function. What Vodyanitsa adds is Anemo RES reduction, healing, interruption resistance, and longer Stellar Swirl support in one slot. That makes her a premium team upgrade rather than the switch that turns Vesna on.
A general Swirl team misses part of Vesna's kit
Vesna can deal Anemo damage without Cryo, but her special reaction is built from Cryo Swirl. Without steady Cryo, she triggers less Stellar Swirl and gets less from Scarlet Proof. If the team cannot maintain that setup, another Anemo carry may fit the account more easily.
Exploration is useful but still costs Stamina
Outside combat, holding Sprint or Jump lets Vesna hover and gain height. She can rise up to three times during one Coursing state. The movement keeps draining Stamina, though, so it is a handy travel tool rather than unlimited flight.
Party elements change Vesna's bonus stats
Each Cryo or Anemo teammate gives Vesna 6% ATK through Truth Prevails. A teammate from any other element gives her 25 Elemental Mastery instead. This is another reason Cryo-and-Anemo-heavy teams suit her, although Vodyanitsa brings enough direct support to earn the Hydro slot.
