There is a lot happening, but not every event deserves the same amount of time or resources. This guide covers the complete August 2026 Pokémon GO schedule and explains which events, raids, and bonuses are worth prioritizing.

Note: All event times are local unless another time zone is listed. Event details may still be adjusted through in-game announcements.

August 28–30 2026 Pokémon World Championships Official competition held at Moscone Center in San Francisco

The Water Festival takes place from August 18 to August 24. The official Pokémon World Championships run from August 28 to August 30, while the wider Pokémon GO calendar lists a Worlds-related period beginning on August 25.

Which Pokémon GO August 2026 Events Should You Prioritize?

Not every Trainer has enough Raid Passes, Incubators, Max Particles, and free time to complete everything. The following events offer the strongest overall value during August.

1. Ultra Unlock: Water Festival

For raw account progression, the Water Festival is likely the best event of the month.

The XP and Stardust bonuses become stronger every two days:

Period Catch XP Catch Stardust
August 18, 10:00 a.m.–August 20, 10:00 a.m.
August 20, 10:00 a.m.–August 22, 10:00 a.m.
August 22, 10:00 a.m.–August 24, 8:00 p.m.

The final phase is the clear farming window. Save your Lucky Eggs, Star Pieces, Poké Balls, and storage space for August 22–24.

Arrokuda and Barraskewda will debut through Field Research, the event GO Pass, and Rainy Lure Modules. Cramorant will debut through Eggs, GO Pass rewards, and GO Battle League encounters beginning at Rank 16.

Reaching Rank 10 on the event GO Pass unlocks 2× Catch Candy, while Rank 20 unlocks 1/2 Egg Hatch Distance for Eggs placed in Incubators during the event.

2. Lunala Five-Star Raids

Lunala returns to five-star raids from August 19 to August 25, with a dedicated Raid Hour on August 19.

More importantly, Shiny Lunala makes its Pokémon GO debut during this rotation. That makes it one of the most important collection targets of the month, especially for players who missed Lunala during earlier events.

Because this raid period overlaps with the Water Festival, players should budget their Raid Passes carefully. The Festival offers excellent catch rewards, while Lunala provides a limited Shiny Legendary opportunity.

3. Nickit Community Day

Nickit Community Day takes place on Sunday, August 16, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Nickit will appear more often in the wild and can be Shiny. Some encounters may also have the yearly Community Day Special Background.

The event bonuses include:

  • 3× Stardust for catching Pokémon
  • 2× Catch Candy
  • Double chance of earning Candy XL from catches for Trainers level 31 or higher
  • Three-hour Incense
  • One-hour regular Lure Modules
  • One additional Special Trade
  • 50% lower trading Stardust cost

Evolve Nickit during the event or within four hours after it ends to receive a Thievul that knows Icy Wind.

Regular Lure Modules will continue attracting Nickit until 9:00 p.m., giving players extra time to hunt Shiny or Special Background encounters after the main spawn window closes.

4. Starmie Super Mega Raid Day

Mega Starmie makes its Pokémon GO debut on August 22 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Every Starmie caught from a successful Super Mega Raid will already have Mega Level 1 unlocked. Trainers can also receive up to six free Raid Passes by spinning Gym Photo Discs.

Other free bonuses include:

  • An additional 5,000 XP from every raid
  • Increased chance of receiving Rare Candy XL
  • Increased chance of encountering Shiny Starmie
  • Remote Raid limit increased to 20 during the announced global window
  • Free Timed Research rewarding a Premium Battle Pass and a Scizor encounter

This event overlaps with the Water Festival’s strongest XP and Stardust phase. Plan a route with several eligible Gyms so you can raid Mega Starmie while catching Water-type spawns between battles.

5. Gigantamax Rillaboom Max Battle Day

Gigantamax Rillaboom returns on Saturday, August 1, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

This is the first opportunity to encounter Shiny Gigantamax Rillaboom in Pokémon GO. The boss will appear in six-star Max Battles at all active Power Spots.

The event also increases the Max Particle collection limit to 1,600 and provides:

  • 8× Max Particles from Power Spots
  • More active Power Spots
  • Faster Power Spot refreshes
  • Up to three Special Trades
  • Double Max Particles from exploring
  • One-quarter of the normal exploration distance required to earn Max Particles

Six-star Gigantamax Battles are designed for coordinated groups. Find a local meetup before the event instead of hoping random players appear at the same Power Spot.

What Happens During Summer Marathon: Arctic Embers?

Summer Marathon: Arctic Embers runs from August 4 at 10:00 a.m. until August 10 at 8:00 p.m.

The biggest attraction is the Pokémon GO debut of Shiny Snom. Snom can appear through event GO Pass tasks and in 5 km Eggs.

The event also increases the chance of finding Shiny Ponyta, Slugma, Snover, and Vanillite. Fire- and Ice-type Pokémon will appear throughout the week, with several featured species rotating by day.

Dates Featured Rotating Pokémon
August 4, 6, 8, and 10 Ponyta and Snover
August 5, 7, 9, and 10 Slugma and Vanillite

Other wild encounters include Vulpix, Alolan Vulpix, Growlithe, Swinub, and Snorunt.

Five-kilometer Eggs may hatch:

  • Sneasel
  • Darumaka
  • Galarian Darumaka
  • Sizzlipede
  • Snom

The free Timed Research rewards 16,800 XP and an encounter with Pikachu wearing a marathon visor.

The event GO Pass unlocks extra PokéStop XP at Rank 10 and reduced Hatch Distance at Rank 20. The free track provides 1/2 Hatch Distance, while the Deluxe track improves it to 1/4.

Is Fire and Ice Hatch Day Worth Playing?

Fire and Ice Hatch Day runs on Saturday, August 8, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

During the event, Smoochum and Magby will hatch much more often from 2 km Eggs. Both Pokémon will also have an increased Shiny hatch chance.

Larvesta may hatch from 5 km Eggs, including its Shiny form.

The event provides:

  • 1/2 Egg Hatch Distance
  • 2× Candy from hatching
  • Increased chance of receiving 2 km Eggs from PokéStops
  • Free Timed Research rewarding an Incubator and XP

This is a solid event for Shiny collectors, but it is less attractive for players with limited Incubators. The Hatch Distance and Candy bonuses do not stack with similar bonuses from other events or GO Passes.

Before 11:00 a.m., clear old Eggs from your storage when possible. Once the event begins, spin PokéStops to collect the boosted 2 km Egg pool.

What Does the August 2026 GO Pass Include?

The monthly GO Pass: August runs from August 4 at 10:00 a.m. until September 8 at 10:00 a.m.

The free reward track includes:

  • An encounter with Latias
  • Stardust
  • XP
  • Max Particles
  • Additional progression rewards

The Deluxe track includes additional Pokémon encounters and a Lucky Trinket as its final reward.

Required Rank Bonus
Rank 1 One additional Candy from trades and guaranteed Candy XL for level 31+ Trainers
Rank 25 Increased Gift opening, receiving, and storage limits
Rank 50 Double Daily Adventure Incense duration
Rank 75 Increased XP and Stardust from hatching Eggs

The Lucky Trinket can turn an eligible friend into a Lucky Friend for one trade. The August Trinket expires on September 13 at 11:59 p.m. local time, so do not leave it unused in your Item Bag.

Pokémon GO August 2026 Five-Star Raid Schedule

Five-star Raid Bosses rotate throughout August. The Lake Guardians remain region-exclusive during their week.

Dates Five-Star Raid Boss Availability
July 29–August 4 Kyurem Global
August 5–11 Uxie Asia-Pacific
August 5–11 Mesprit Europe, Middle East, Africa, and India
August 5–11 Azelf Americas and Greenland
August 12–18 Groudon Global
August 19–25 Lunala Global; Shiny debut
August 26–September 8 Regirock, Regice, and Registeel Global

The regional Lake Guardian week is most useful for local players who still need their region’s Legendary. Remote invitations or international friends will be required to collect all three.

Groudon is a strong target for players who need Groudon Candy or a better specimen for a future Primal Reversion. Lunala is the major Shiny hunt, while Registeel remains the most broadly relevant of the three Regis for many PvP players.

Pokémon GO August 2026 Raid Hours

Raid Hours take place every Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. local time.

Date Featured Raid Boss
August 5 Uxie, Mesprit, or Azelf depending on region
August 12 Groudon
August 19 Lunala
August 26 Regirock, Regice, and Registeel

During the Forever Forward Season, Trainers also receive one Rare Candy XL for completing an in-person Raid Battle on Wednesday.

For the best results, enter the Raid Hour with:

  • A prepared counter team
  • Enough Pokémon storage
  • Revives and Potions
  • At least one remote or local group ready
  • A Mega-Evolved Pokémon that matches the Candy type you want to boost

Pokémon GO August 2026 Mega Raid Schedule

Standard Mega Raids will rotate alongside the five-star bosses.

Dates Mega Raid Boss
July 29–August 4 Mega Aggron
August 5–11 Mega Blaziken
August 12–18 Mega Garchomp
August 19–25 Mega Swampert
August 26–September 8 Mega Gyarados

Players with limited Premium Battle Passes should focus on earning enough Mega Energy to unlock each form at least once. After the first Mega Evolution, the cooldown system can reduce the need to spend more energy later.

Mega Garchomp, Mega Swampert, and Mega Gyarados also offer useful type-based Candy bonuses during events featuring Dragon-, Ground-, Water-, or Dark-type catches.

When Does Shadow Giratina Appear in August?

Shadow Altered Forme Giratina will make its Shadow Raid debut during the August rotation.

It is scheduled to appear in five-star Shadow Raids on weekends from August 5 through September 8. Trainers may also encounter Shiny Shadow Altered Forme Giratina for the first time.

Because five-star Shadow Raids require local participation, Remote Raid Passes cannot replace a local group. Organize your team before the weekend and bring Purified Gems when needed.

Pokémon GO August 2026 Max Battles and Max Mondays

Different Dynamax Pokémon will rotate through Power Spots each week.

Dates Featured Dynamax Pokémon
July 26–August 2 Feebas
August 3–9 Magmar
August 10–16 Beldum
August 17–23 Magikarp
August 24–30 Hitmontop
August 31–September 6 Eevee

Magmar, Magikarp, and Hitmontop make their Max Battle debuts during the season.

For long-term account value, Beldum, Magikarp, and Eevee are the safest targets. Their evolved forms have wider uses than most of the other Pokémon in the rotation.

Max Monday bonuses include more active Power Spots, faster refreshes, rotating Dynamax bosses, and one Rare Candy XL from completing an in-person Max Battle. Max Battles are normally available between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. local time.

Pokémon GO August 2026 Spotlight Hour Schedule

Spotlight Hour takes place every Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. during the Forever Forward Season.

Date Featured Pokémon Bonus
August 6 Delibird 2× Catch Stardust
August 13 Wurmple 2× Evolution XP
August 20 Magikarp 2× Catch XP
August 27 Mankey 2× Catch Candy

This Thursday schedule is intentional. Spotlight Hour returned as part of the updated GO Battle Thursdays and Spotlight Hour Daily Discovery system.

Delibird Spotlight Hour

Delibird Spotlight Hour is the best standalone Stardust hour of the month.

Delibird normally gives 500 Stardust per catch. With the 2× event bonus, each catch provides 1,000 Stardust before weather boosts or a Star Piece. A Star Piece raises that amount to 1,500 Stardust per standard catch.

Prepare by clearing Pokémon storage, saving Ultra Balls, and finding a dense spawn area. Fast catching will matter more than checking every individual IV.

Wurmple Spotlight Hour

Wurmple’s bonus is 2× Evolution XP. This is mainly an account-leveling event.

Tag a large group of low-cost evolutions before the event begins. Activate a Lucky Egg, then evolve continuously during the hour. Catching Wurmple is optional unless you need Candy or Shiny family members.

Magikarp Spotlight Hour

Magikarp offers 2× Catch XP and is a useful Candy target because evolving one into Gyarados requires 400 Candy.

Use Excellent Throws when possible. Magikarp has a large catch circle, making it a good target for stacking the event bonus with a Lucky Egg.

The timing also lines up with the weekly Dynamax Magikarp rotation from August 17–23.

Mankey Spotlight Hour

Mankey Spotlight Hour gives 2× Catch Candy.

Use Pinap Berries when your supply allows. Mankey Candy can be used across its evolution family, including Annihilape, making this one of the more practical Candy farming hours.

What Are the August 2026 Research Breakthrough Rewards?

The Research Breakthrough pool remains tied to the Forever Forward Season, which runs until September 8.

Completing Field Research on seven different days can lead to an encounter with one of the following Pokémon:

  • Dragonite
  • Axew
  • Honedge
  • Jangmo-o
  • Indeedee
  • Klawf

Dragonite, Axew, Honedge, Jangmo-o, and Indeedee may be Shiny. Klawf is included in the encounter pool but is not currently listed with Shiny availability.

Honedge and Jangmo-o are among the more attractive collection encounters. However, the reward is randomly selected, so do not delay claiming a completed Research Breakthrough while waiting for one specific species.

What Is Happening During PokémonXP and Worlds?

The August monthly calendar lists a PokémonXP and Worlds period from August 25 to August 30.

The official 2026 Pokémon World Championships will take place from August 28 to August 30 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. Pokémon GO is one of the competitive games featured at Worlds, and PokémonXP will run alongside the championship experience.

As of July 24, a dedicated official Pokémon GO announcement explaining the complete global in-game bonuses for this period has not been published. Details such as special spawns, Timed Research, GO Battle League rewards, or livestream codes are to be updated.

How Should You Prepare for Pokémon GO August 2026?

August places heavy pressure on several resources. A little planning will prevent you from running out at the wrong time.

Save These Items

  • Star Pieces for Delibird Spotlight Hour, Nickit Community Day, and the final Water Festival phase
  • Lucky Eggs for Water Festival and Magikarp Spotlight Hour
  • Incubators for Arctic Embers and Fire and Ice Hatch Day
  • Premium Battle Passes for Lunala and Mega Starmie
  • Max Particles and Max Mushrooms for Gigantamax Rillaboom
  • Pinap Berries for Nickit, Magikarp, Mankey, and Arrokuda
  • Rainy Lure Modules for Arrokuda during the Water Festival

Clear Storage Before Major Events

Pokémon storage should be cleared before:

  • Nickit Community Day
  • Delibird Spotlight Hour
  • Water Festival’s final bonus phase
  • Magikarp Spotlight Hour

Egg storage should be cleared before Fire and Ice Hatch Day. Item storage should have enough room for Poké Balls, Raid rewards, and event research items.

Plan Your Paid Resources

Players using free resources should avoid spending heavily on every raid rotation.

A reasonable priority order is:

  1. Unlock Mega Starmie once.
  2. Raid Lunala for its Shiny debut.
  3. Complete any missing Mega Evolutions.
  4. Use remaining passes on Groudon or the Regis based on your account needs.

Incubators should be saved for events with reduced Hatch Distance or an Egg pool you actually want. A shorter walking distance does not guarantee a rare hatch.

Frequently Asked Questions

When are Pokémon GO Spotlight Hours in August 2026?

Pokémon GO Spotlight Hours take place every Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. local time in August 2026. The featured Pokémon are Delibird on August 6, Wurmple on August 13, Magikarp on August 20, and Mankey on August 27.

What is the best Pokémon GO event in August 2026?

The Ultra Unlock: Water Festival offers the best general farming value because its bonuses rise to 4× Catch XP and 5× Catch Stardust during the final phase. Lunala raids, Nickit Community Day, and Mega Starmie Raid Day are stronger priorities for collectors.

Can Lunala be Shiny in Pokémon GO during August 2026?

Yes. Shiny Lunala debuts when Lunala appears in five-star raids from August 19 to August 25. Its Raid Hour takes place on Wednesday, August 19, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. local time.

When does Shadow Giratina appear in Pokémon GO?

Shadow Altered Forme Giratina is scheduled to appear in five-star Shadow Raids on weekends from August 5 through September 8. Its Shiny Shadow form will also become available.

Is Fire and Ice Hatch Day worth using paid Incubators?

It is most useful for players hunting Shiny Smoochum, Shiny Magby, or Larvesta. The event provides 1/2 Hatch Distance and double hatch Candy, but these bonuses do not stack with similar event or GO Pass bonuses. Players who do not need the featured Egg Pokémon can safely use only their free Incubator.
