VALORANT Patch 13.04 is now live with Act 5, and the most important gameplay change is the Competitive map rotation: Abyss is back, while Breeze is out. Riot did not introduce a new Agent balance pass in this patch, but the update still matters for Ranked players because the map pool changes which Agent strengths are most valuable from match to match.

PC players also enter a new Premier stage with a shorter five-week schedule, while Riot is already teasing a new Dev Update for September. The best first move is therefore not to relearn every Agent—it is to adjust your map preparation, review the balance changes that arrived in earlier 13.x patches, and make sure your current role pool still fits Act 5.

VALORANT Patch 13.04 at a Glance

Patch 13.04 released on August 18, 2026. Riot describes it as the start of Act 5, with a new map rotation, Agent and cosmetic bug fixes, and the beginning of Premier Stage V26A5.

Change Patch 13.04 Status Why It Matters
Abyss In Competitive and Deathmatch Ranked players need to rebuild map familiarity
Breeze Out of Competitive and Deathmatch Breeze-specific Agent value matters less in the active queues
Agent balance No new balance pass Current meta still depends heavily on earlier 13.x changes
Agent fixes Cypher, Viper, Deadlock, Clove Fixes consistency issues rather than changing intended power
Premier V26A5 Live New five-week Premier schedule
Act 5 Live New Act progression is underway
September Dev Update Announced / Teased More game news is coming, but details are not confirmed

The key distinction is important: Patch 13.04 changes the environment more than it changes individual Agent kits. Riot's Agent section contains bug fixes rather than buffs or nerfs.

Abyss Is Back in Competitive

Abyss has returned to both Competitive and Deathmatch. At the same time, Breeze has been removed from those queues.

For Ranked players, that means the first few days of Act 5 are a map-preparation problem as much as an aim problem. Players who have not practiced Abyss recently should prioritize relearning common routes, site-entry paths, defensive rotations, utility timing, and safe movement before worrying about a theoretical “perfect” composition.

A full Abyss guide should remain separate from this patch overview. A dedicated map page can later cover callouts, attack and defense plans, Agent choices, smoke placements, recon utility, Sentinel setups, and current Patch 13.04 data without turning this article into two competing search intents.

What Does Breeze Leaving Mean for Agent Picks?

Removing Breeze does not directly nerf any Agent. It removes one environment in which certain kits may have offered unusually high value.

That distinction matters especially for Controllers. BUFFHUB's existing VALORANT Controller Tier List treats Viper as a strongly map-dependent Controller and specifically highlights Breeze as one of her major environments. With Breeze now outside Competitive and Deathmatch, Controller rankings should be reviewed around the new active map context rather than copied forward unchanged.

The same logic applies to every role. A tier list tells you an Agent's broad strength; a map guide tells you whether that strength actually fits the geometry and utility demands of the match you are about to play.

Did Patch 13.04 Buff or Nerf Any Agents?

Not directly.

Riot's Patch 13.04 Agent section contains bug fixes rather than balance changes. The update fixes Cypher's Spycam minimap icon orientation, Viper's Snake Bite equip animation from the enemy perspective, Deadlock GravNet visual effects after reconnecting, and a Clove stability problem involving repeated switching between Meddle and Ruse.

Players should therefore avoid reading Patch 13.04 as a sudden Agent-meta reset. However, that does not mean the current Agent meta is the same as it was in April.

The Duelist Meta Has Changed Since BUFFHUB's Last Tier List

BUFFHUB's current VALORANT Duelist Tier List was constructed around Patch 12.06. Since then, Riot has made relevant changes to Yoru, Iso, and Phoenix.

Iso

Patch 13.01 made weapon equip immediate after unequipping Double Tap. This reduces the awkward transition between using the ability and returning to a gunfight.

That does not automatically make Iso S-Tier, but it is enough that an April rating should not be reused without another review.

Yoru

Patch 13.01 increased Gatecrash's Active Beacon Duration from 15 seconds to 20 seconds. Fakeout clones also now carry Yoru's last equipped weapon rather than defaulting to his strongest gun.

This is particularly relevant because the existing BUFFHUB list evaluates Yoru after the heavy Patch 12.05 changes. The 13.01 buff changes that context and should be incorporated the next time the Duelist page is refreshed.

Phoenix

Patch 13.02 increased the cost of Run It Back from six Ultimate Points to seven. Riot described the change as a small adjustment intended to reduce how frequently Phoenix could cast his Ultimate.

For Ranked players, the practical lesson is simple: do not treat an old role tier list as permanent when Agent patches have happened since its data window.

Sentinels Are a Major Act 5 Story Even Without a 13.04 Buff

Patch 13.04 itself does not buff Sentinels, but Patch 13.00 made major changes across the class.

Cypher received a faster Trapwire windup. Killjoy received improvements to Turret fire rate, Nanoswarm duration, and Alarmbot movement. Veto received lower Interceptor reclaim cooldown plus Crosscut improvements, Sage's self-heal increased, and Deadlock's GravNet cooldown dropped from 60 to 50 seconds.

That makes a dedicated Sentinel Tier List one of the clearest missing pieces in BUFFHUB's current VALORANT content cluster.

More importantly, players should judge Sentinels by map function rather than raw kill potential. Information, flank control, stall utility, site anchoring, and post-plant value can change dramatically between maps.

Initiators Also Deserve a Fresh Role Guide

Patch 13.00 reduced the Signature Ability cooldown for Sova, Fade, Skye, Breach, and KAY/O from 60 seconds to 50 seconds. Gekko's reclaimed ability cooldowns were also reduced from 20 seconds to 15 seconds.

These changes matter most in rounds that last long enough to generate repeat utility.

That is a different search intent from a generic Agent Tier List. A good Initiator guide should eventually compare information gathering, flash support, site-entry utility, retake value, and map dependence instead of simply ranking Agents by K/D.

For that reason, the Initiator Tier List is better kept as its own future page rather than compressed into this Patch 13.04 overview.

How Does Premier V26A5 Work?

Premier Stage V26A5 started on August 18 for PC players.

The schedule is shorter than normal:

  • Five weeks of matches instead of seven
  • Teams with at least 450 Premier Score qualify for the September 20 Playoffs outside Contender and Invite
  • Contender and Invite qualification remains placement-based
  • Those two divisions play their first Playoff round on September 19, with advancing teams returning September 20

If your team plays Premier, this compressed schedule makes missed weeks more costly than during a normal seven-week Stage.

The safest approach is to check the in-client schedule early, confirm player availability, and avoid assuming you have the usual amount of time to recover lost Premier Score.

What Else Is New With Act 5?

Act 5 is live, and Riot revealed the Aeris skinline on August 17 before Patch 13.04 launched.

This guide deliberately does not provide a complete Act 5 Battle Pass reward table. Third-party pages may already circulate detailed Battle Pass information, but exact tiers, collection names, and reward quantities should be verified against Riot or the live client before being presented as confirmed facts.

Players who have already decided to purchase VP for cosmetics or Battle Pass content can review the VALORANT top-up page separately. Spending is optional and does not change competitive Agent or map balance.

What Should Ranked Players Do First in Patch 13.04?

1. Relearn Abyss Before Overhauling Your Agent Pool

The immediate environment change is Abyss replacing Breeze, not a large Agent balance patch.

Start with map familiarity. A comfortable A-Tier Agent on a map you understand is often more useful than switching to an unfamiliar Agent because someone labels it S-Tier.

2. Recheck Yoru, Iso, and Phoenix

If you play Duelist, the 13.01 and 13.02 changes are more important to your Agent kit than anything in 13.04 itself.

3. Give Sentinel and Initiator Picks Another Look

Patch 13.00 changed multiple Sentinels and reduced several Initiator cooldowns. If you ignored those roles before, Act 5 is a good time to reassess them rather than relying on an older meta snapshot.

4. Premier Teams Should Check the Calendar Now

V26A5 lasts only five match weeks. Premier players should verify their schedule before missed matches become difficult to recover from.

What Is Coming Next?

Riot has confirmed that more news is coming in September, including a new Dev Update and other game updates. Riot has not yet explained what those updates contain.

That means claims about a September Agent, map, balance overhaul, or mode should currently be treated as unconfirmed unless Riot publishes additional information.

AROS: Replication is another example. Riot delayed the mode in Patch 13.02 and said it was still targeting a future release, but no new date was provided.

The correct approach is to wait for confirmation rather than turn speculation into a release-date article.

Final Recommendation

Patch 13.04 is a smaller balance patch but an important environment patch.

Abyss returning and Breeze leaving changes the map context for Ranked. Act 5 is now underway, Premier V26A5 has a shorter schedule, and several earlier 13.x Agent changes still need to be reflected in current role rankings.

For most players, the priority should be: map preparation first, Agent reassessment second, spending last.

Learn Abyss again, review the recent changes affecting your main role, and do not rebuild an entire Agent pool just because a new Act started.

Players interested in free cosmetic rewards separate from Act 5 progression can also check BUFFHUB's current VALORANT codes page.
