Core Mechanics: How Phainon Works
Coreflame System (Talent)
Phainon gains Coreflame stacks (max 6) when:
- Ally units consume SP (Skill Points)
- Ally units use their Ultimate abilities
- Phainon himself uses his Skill
When reaching 6 stacks, Phainon can activate his Ultimate to consume all stacks and enter the Khaslana state.
Khaslana Transformation (Ultimate)
Upon using Ultimate:
- Consumes all 6 Coreflame stacks
- Transforms into Khaslana for 1 turn
- Gains massive stat boosts (CRIT DMG, Break Efficiency)
- Immediately performs an enhanced attack on the main target, then launches additional hits on random enemies
- Heals himself after the attack ends based on damage dealt
Territory Mechanic (Skill)
Using Skill creates a Territory field where:
- Phainon becomes the primary action taker
- Allies "assist" by providing buffs rather than taking their own turns (in gameplay, this appears as allies granting him Coreflame while he acts)
- Significantly increases his damage output during the duration
Trace Priority
Phainon's damage heavily relies on his Ultimate transformation. Priority:
- Ultimate = Talent (Equal highest priority) – Core transformation mechanic and Coreflame generation efficiency
- Skill (High) – Territory uptime and immediate damage
- Basic Attack (Low) – Only used when no SP available; minimal damage contribution
Major Trace Unlocks
| Trace | Level | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Sky-Splitting Myriad-Prison Flash | A2 | Increases damage cap and Coreflame generation rate |
| Gleam, the Broken Moonlight | A4 | Enhances self-sustainability during Khaslana state |
| Darkness, the Uproar of Dawn | A6 | Massive CRIT DMG boost when allies act; key for hypercarry teams |
Phainon Eidolons
Phainon gains significant power spikes at Eidolon 1 and Eidolon 6:
Increases the damage dealt during Khaslana state by 30%. Additionally, when consuming Coreflame, has a 50% chance to not consume the stacks (effect triggers once per activation).
When entering battle, immediately gains 3 stacks of Coreflame. While Khaslana is active, ignores 15% of the target's DEF.
Skill Lv. +2, up to a maximum of Lv. 15.
Basic ATK Lv. +1, up to a maximum of Lv. 10.
While in Territory, Phainon's resistance to crowd control effects increases by 50%. When attacked while in Khaslana state, immediately counterattacks for minor damage.
Ultimate Lv. +2, up to a maximum of Lv. 15.
Talent Lv. +2, up to a maximum of Lv. 15.
When using Ultimate, automatically gains max Coreflame stacks after the Khaslana state ends. During Khaslana state, all attacks are treated as Weakness Break regardless of enemy type, and Break Efficiency increases by 100%.
Value Assessment: E1 provides ~20% damage increase. E2 improves quality-of-life and rotation consistency. E6 transforms Phainon into a Weakness-agnostic breaker, making him universally powerful against all enemy types.
Best Light Cones
Signature: Thus Burns the Dawn (S5)
Base Stats: HP 953 | ATK 688 | DEF 397
- Increases wearer's SPD by 12-20% (scales with superimposition)
- Increases DMG dealt to enemies with decreased HP by 30-50%
- When using Ultimate, gains Blazing Sun: Increases Break DMG by 30-50% and regenerates 10-20 Energy after attack
Why BiS: Perfectly synergizes with Phainon's Ultimate-centric rotation. The Energy regeneration ensures faster Ultimate cycling, and the Break DMG bonus applies to his entire Khaslana sequence.
Alternative Options
| Light Cone | Rarity | Performance | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| A Trail of Bygone Blood | 5★ | ~85-90% | Generalist option; ATK buffs apply to Phainon's self-healing |
| Something Irreplaceable | 5★ | ~80% | Survivability focus; ATK buffs require taking damage |
| On the Fall of an Aeon | 5★ (F2P) | ~75% | Best F2P option from Herta Store; Break Effect secondary stat valuable |
| The Moles Welcome You | 4★ | ~70% | Attack-stacking buff from Basic ATK/Skill/Ultimate usage |
Phainon Best Relics & Planar Ornaments
Cavern Relics (Outer Set)
Best-in-Slot: Wavestrider Captain (4-piece)
- 2-piece: Increases CRIT DMG by 16%
- 4-piece: When the wearer is the target of an ally's ability, gains 1 stack of Help (max 2 stacks). When using Ultimate, consumes all Help stacks and increases ATK by 24-48% (12% per stack) for that attack.
Synergy: Phainon naturally wants his teammates to target him with buffs (Sunday's Skill, Trailblazer's Ultimate, etc.), making this effortless to stack.
Alternative: Champion of Streetwise Boxing (4pc) – if lacking good Wavestrider pieces, provides consistent ATK stacking.
Planar Ornaments (Inner Set)
Best-in-Slot: Duran, Dynasty of the Wolves (2-piece)
- Increases wearer's Crit DMG by 16%
- When ally targets wearer with ability, Crit DMG increases by additional 16% for 2 turns
Alternative Options:
| Set | Effect | When to Use |
|---|---|---|
| Bone-Covering Golden Globes | Increases Break Effect and Break DMG | If building for Break-focused Phainon (E6 or high investment) |
| The Wondrous Banquet of the Senses | Buffs based on ally actions | General support alternative |
| Rutilant Arena | CRIT Rate requirements | If struggling to reach 70% CRIT Rate |
Stat Priority
Main Stats
| Slot | Best Option | Alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Body | CRIT DMG | CRIT Rate (if below 60%) |
| Feet | ATK% | SPD (if using specific speed tuning) |
| Planar Sphere | Physical DMG% | ATK% |
| Link Rope | ATK% | Energy Regeneration Rate (if E0 and lacking SP gen) |
Sub-Stats Priority
- CRIT Rate (to 70% cap before buffs)
- CRIT DMG (as high as possible)
- ATK%
- Break Effect (for Break damage during Khaslana)
- SPD (less important due to Territory mechanics)
• CRIT Rate: 70% (before buffs; buffs will push to 100%)
• CRIT DMG: 180%+
• ATK: 3,200+
• Break Effect: 120%+ (if using Break-focused build)
Best Team Compositions
Premium Hypercarry (Best Performance)
| Role | Character | Contribution |
|---|---|---|
| DPS | Phainon | Main damage dealer; requires constant buffing |
| Buffer | Sunday | Provides ATK%, CRIT, Action Advance, and SP generation. BiS support. |
| Buffer | Trailblazer (Remembrance) | Universal damage amplification via True DMG and Memosprite buffs |
| Sustain | Huohuo / Lingsha / Gallagher | Healing + energy (Huohuo) or Break support (Lingsha) or budget sustain (Gallagher) |
F2P/Budget Option
Phainon + Pela (DEF shred) + Tingyun (ATK buffs/energy) + Gallagher (healing/break)
Note: Budget teams perform significantly worse due to Phainon's dependency on multi-layered buffs. Consider saving for Sunday if pulling Phainon.
Speed-Tuned Composition
For players with Eidolons: Phainon + Sunday + Sparkle + Sustain
- Sparkle provides action advancement and massive ATK buffs
- Requires precise speed tuning: Sunday > Sparkle > Phainon
Gameplay Tips & Rotation
- Rotation Basics: Use Skill to establish Territory → Let allies buff you (generating Coreflame) → Use Ultimate at 6 stacks → Repeat.
- Buff Stacking: Time all ally buffs (Sunday's Skill, MC's Ultimate) to land right before Phainon's Ultimate for maximum Khaslana damage.
- Energy Management: With Signature Light Cone, aim for Ultimate every 2-3 turns. Without it, consider ER Link Rope or Energy-generating supports like Huohuo.
- Territory Awareness: Inside Territory, Phainon effectively "steals" turns from allies. Ensure all buffs are applied before he starts his sequence.
- Blazing Sun Window: If using Signature LC, the turn after Ultimate grants massive Break DMG. Consider saving this for high-toughness enemies.
- E6 Transformation: At E6, Phainan ignores Weakness types. Use this to brute-force bosses regardless of their resistances.
Final Verdict
Phainon is a top-tier hypercarry released in Version 3.4 who dominates Apocalyptic Shadow and performs excellently in Memory of Chaos. However, he is heavily team-dependent—without Sunday or Remembrance Trailblazer, his performance drops to T1.5-T2.
Pull Recommendation:
- Yes if you have Sunday and enjoy hypercarry playstyles
- Yes if you need a Physical DPS for Apocalyptic Shadow
- Caution if you lack proper supports—consider saving for his rerun when you have the full team
With Wavestrider Captain, Thus Burns the Dawn, and a dedicated buffer team, Phainon delivers some of the highest burst numbers in the game. Invest wisely.
