Kingshot Eric Build Guide: Defensive Skills and When to Invest

Eric is a defensive Infantry investment for accounts that need a stronger frontline during Gen 3. If Gen 4 is already available and you have not started him, compare the cost with Alcar before spending general shards. Keeping a developed Eric is different from building one from zero. His team protection can justify continuing an existing build, but his control effects do not require you to max every damage skill.

When Eric Solves a Real Roster Problem

Eric is available through Hall of Heroes and the Swordland Shop as your server progresses. His main use is helping a formation withstand attacks while disrupting enemies in Conquest. He is not a purchase aimed primarily at a damage-only score. If your frontline already survives the fights you care about, improving a damage dealer may change more results than buying another tank.

Community discussions comparing Eric and Alcar often disagree because one player owns Eric already and another is considering the full recruitment and development cost. Use that distinction before acting on a recommendation. An established Eric can continue to carry a second formation even after your main Infantry slot changes; a fresh Eric late in his generation has less time to repay the same shard investment. Do not spread shards across him and his planned replacement unless both have a defined job.

The Control Effects You Already Have

Ground Shock's listed Attack Speed reduction is 50% for four seconds at every skill level. Hammer of Justice's stun remains a 30% chance lasting one second. Their damage increases with upgrades, but the control does not become stronger in the way a blanket "max control first" recommendation implies. If you are spending for frontline survival, inspect Veterancy rather than assuming another damage rank extends a stun or slow.

Conquest skill What scales Upgrade decision
Ground Shock Direct damage: 120% to 168% of Attack Buy later levels for damage, not for a stronger 50% Attack Speed reduction.
Hammer of Justice Fan-shaped damage: 80% to 112% of Attack Its 30% stun chance and one-second duration do not improve with these ranks.
Veterancy Trigger chance: 8% to 16%; Defense per stack: 8% to 20% Consider it when Eric is the casualty that causes the formation to collapse; it remains a chance-based effect.

For a survival-focused Eric, secure his available skills and put subsequent Conquest investment into the effect that addresses the loss. Veterancy is a sensible candidate when he receives sustained attacks, while Ground Shock and Hammer of Justice serve a damage shortfall. Veterancy lasts two seconds and permits up to five stacks; that ceiling does not mean five stacks are present throughout combat. A short burst can still kill him before a favorable series of triggers.

Expedition: Three Defensive Effects, Three Different Stats

Holy Warrior reduces enemy squad Attack by up to 20%, Conviction reduces your squads' damage taken by up to 20%, and Exhortation adds up to 25% squad Health. These are distinct effects, not percentages to add into a single guaranteed reduction. For a defensive march, Conviction is a straightforward first candidate because it directly addresses incoming damage. Then compare the next ranks of Holy Warrior and Exhortation against the cost, rather than dismissing Health as automatically inferior.

All three Expedition skills emphasize survival, which explains why Eric is not an automatic choice for every event. In a damage-only objective where survival is not limiting, defensive effects have less opportunity to improve your score. As a rally participant, use the support hero and skill requested by your leader instead of assuming Eric's complete defensive package transfers. An account can benefit from him in one role and use another hero for a different activity.

Anvil of Truth and the Cost of Another Defensive Upgrade

Anvil of Truth separates Conquest damage from an Expedition defender bonus. Blessed Hammer increases Eric's damage, while Vanguard increases defending squads' Defense. That makes the item attractive for a committed defensive role, but its offensive Conquest effect is not itself a cure for Eric dying too early. Check which of the two effects improves at the next rank before deciding where to stop.

Do not commit to level 8 merely because a guide labels it efficient. Write down the next upgrade's benefit and the alternative purchase it postpones. If Eric is already being replaced in your main formation, continuing expensive widget upgrades needs a concrete second-team or defensive use. If he remains your regular defensive lead, the same purchase has more opportunities to matter.

Diagnose the Loss Before Buying Gear

In a replay, distinguish Eric dying first from a backline ally being removed while he remains alive. The first points toward frontline durability; the second calls for a look at placement and the exposed ally. More Infantry gear will not automatically redirect an attack away from a vulnerable damage dealer. Keep the opponent and remaining lineup comparable when testing a change.

If Eric survives but your team times out, avoid treating every loss as a tank problem. Compare an upgrade to the main damage dealer with additional Ground Shock damage before spending more on defensive equipment. Preserve useful existing gear when evaluating a replacement: comparing a heavily equipped Eric with a poorly equipped new hero tells you little about the hero change. You can use the mode-specific hero guide to identify the role that needs replacing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I start Eric after Alcar arrives?

Compare the full cost of both attainable builds first. Advice to keep an existing Eric does not establish that recruiting and developing him from scratch is the best late investment.

Does leveling Ground Shock improve its slow?

The listed slow stays at 50% for four seconds. Later ranks raise the attack's damage.

Does Hammer of Justice gain a more reliable stun?

Its listed stun remains a 30% chance for one second. Upgrade it for damage rather than expecting a longer or more frequent stun.

Should Eric be used in every march?

No. His Expedition kit is defensive. Keep him where surviving enemy attacks is valuable, and compare offensive heroes for objectives in which additional survival does not improve the result.
